On Wednesday we had a guest speaker who spoke to us about the way women are presented in the media.

Friday we need to complete an evaluation of J. Bell's presentation. We're also going to send her polished copies of our blog posts. I'd like her to see your reflections.

Today we are going to start analyzing music videos.


Discuss 3-4 music videos and the way women are portrayed in them.

• Two genres (compare and contrast)

November 6th (ads)

Using the article we used the last time we met and the ads we found online, please create your own blog post where you upload images/ads that fit with the categories we learned. How do the ads fit into the categories. Discuss each one. Make sure you have a total of ten ads and ten discussions.

November (WHAT?) 2nd

1. Find five print ads that objectify women. Make sure they have no nudity. Take screenshots and put the ads on a google doc or a pages document.

2. Read this Article.

3. Label the different types of ads you have found. You will be writing a longer blog post, so start thinking about why you've selected the ads you have selected.

How do you feel you are perceived?
How have your perceptions of women changed as you've grown?
What inspires your confidence?

Use the answers to these questions to guide a blog post about this subject.

Today you'll work on these Growing Up Questions with your classmates. The idea is to get some practice sharing AND (more importantly) using garage band.

Homework:

Go to the storycorps website and look at the section labeled parents.

Use these questions to help guide a conversation with one of your parents (or both, or a different role model/parental figure in your life).

Make sure you record it!

The recording is due on Tuesday the 13th.

The reflection is also due on Tuesday the 13th.

The reflection may include a response to any/all of the following:

1. Discuss what made you comfortable.
2. Discuss what made you nervous.
3. Discuss what you learned from doing this.
4. Discuss what you wish you had asked but didn't have the guts to.
5. Discuss the technical aspects of completing the projects. What worked? What would you do differently?
